Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcelona winger Cristian Tello has ended in failure after the Spanish Champions reported today that the 21 year old has agreed terms to a 2 year contract extension with the club. The short term nature of the contract and the presence of a 25 million euro release clause means that Liverpool could still chase the player some time in the future, but by agreeing a deal for now it appears that Tello has decided that he wishes to spend his immediate future at the Camp Nou where he tries to earn himself a regular starting spot in Barcelona’s star studded line-up where Chilean sensation Alexis Sanchez and former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas aren’t guaranteed a starting berth.
Tello has been with the Barca senior side for a little over a season now. After making his debut in the Copa del Rey in 2011, the youngster got a run in the first team last season, notching up a very decent 34 appearances, though a large number of those came against lesser teams and from the subs benches. Tello also weighed in with a decent 8 goals.
